Outsourcing Strategy

What to outsource first in a growing business

A practical way to choose the first process to delegate, based on repeatability, risk and the value of the time it returns.

Start with repeatable work, not difficult work

The first process to move should be the one that happens most often and changes least. Repeatable work is easier to document, easier to check and easier to correct if something drifts.

  • It occurs daily or weekly
  • The steps rarely change
  • A wrong step is visible and reversible
  • It does not require a professional judgement

Measure the time it returns

Delegating a task that takes twenty minutes a month rarely justifies the setup effort. Look for work that consumes several hours each week from people whose time is worth more elsewhere.

Check the risk before the saving

Processes that touch personal information, payments or regulated obligations need a separate review of access, approvals and contractual arrangements before anything moves.
