Plan the exit before the final day
Identify every account, integration, shared mailbox, folder, distribution list, device and credential connected to the provider. Assign an owner and removal date for each item.
Complete operational and information handover
Transfer open work, procedures, reports, issue logs, customer commitments and pending decisions. Agree how client information will be returned, retained or deleted and what evidence of completion is required.
- Disable named accounts and remote access
- Rotate shared credentials and API keys
- Remove forwarding rules and shared-folder membership
- Recover client equipment and materials
- Confirm data return or deletion
Record closure and review lessons
Keep a signed or otherwise confirmed closure record showing completed actions and outstanding obligations. Review why the relationship ended and which transition lessons should update future contracts and onboarding.
A clean exit protects continuity and information. It should be treated as a planned operational process rather than an administrative afterthought.
